Chapter 1

About a year ago, I ask myself “How to make video game”. I knew about the code, the engine, … but how to make it by myself? That’s when this project started.

ABOUT THE GAME

I wanted to make something special, challenging. A combination of all the little things I love in video games. First thing, something smallest as possible, with big pixels but enough space to recognize characters and items. I love the way games looks on olds Atari and Game Boy, low colors palettes and graphics limitations.

What kind of game? My favs kind : adventure platformer, like Mario, Metroid and Castelvania. Where you have to collect coins and jewels, find secret passages and fight monsters. Jump over spikes, explore, find keys and chests and beat the Boss.

The story? Well you’ll have to discover it by playing. All I can say is that you play a skull head that isn’t totally dead.

DEVELOPMENT

How could I make my game.. I first thought about Java, but tried it years ago and didn’t liked it at all. C or C++ ? Why not but I don’t know anything about it. Flash ? I’m kidding. The easier way : type how to make a video game on Google and you can choose between a lot of programs and tools make to create games. I chose Game Maker Studio, because an old version was working on mac, it seem easy, and some really great games have been made with it.

Working on a mac was a mistake, and it wasn’t that easy. Luckily there’s a lot of tutorials on Internet and everything going well. I trained myself on other project but I’ll talk about that later.

I hope you’ll be interested by this project, I’ll tell you more about it soon. Stay tuned.
